WHIMSICAL WOODLAND NURSERY

2011

I created an interior styling package for a nursery for a new baby girl, using colors and accessories to work with existing furniture pieces, keeping with a feminine, woodland theme. At the time of the project, the clients were in the process of looking for a new house, so the design was kept broad to accommodate whatever the new space would be. They received two initial concepts, with sample boards and sourcing lists, and we worked together to come to a final design.

WARM MODERN MUSICIANS HOME

2011

I designed four rooms of a home for a musician in Cocoa, FL. We worked with a tiered budget of $5000, $7500, and $10,000 and the client requested as much DIY as possible to replace all finishes and furnishings in the selected rooms. We were also mindful of the resale value in changing major finishes such as flooring. Furnishings were selected with a laid-back vibe, using a combination of multiple warm browns with varied textures to create a relaxed, yet sophisticated home that reflected the client.

URBAN TECHIE BROWNCOAT LOFT

2012

I designed a downtown Orlando studio condominium for my client to use as a primary residence, with a budget of $15,000, including labor. Start to finish the duration of the project was 12 weeks.

As this was the client's second residence in the city, I sourced all items necessary to furnish a home, including kitchenware, linens and bespoke storage - on top of fully renovated finishes, furnishings, and fittings. This was the client's first experience with designing a home purely to their liking, so to begin the project we worked together to determine their personal style.

Throughout, I provided full project management services including: working with the building association and administration, vetting and managing trades, and arranging deliveries.

Design should be a seamless balance of functionality + style.

Also, fun.  Design should be fun, too, don't you think?

My Background

PORTRAIT

Melissa Sikorski

Designer + Stylist

Born and raised in Montana, I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design from 1996-2000, studying Interior Design.   Savannah was where I found myself (and my tribe) and also, where I met and married my husband, Brian.   I've now been a Southerner as long as I was ever a Westerner, and I find myself simultaneously missing the sound of snow crunching under my boots while marveling at being able to harvest vegetables from the garden in January.

I am a lover of history, an admirer of ephemera and thus a firm believer in printed media.   I am an early adopter, a moviephile, and a passionate clotheshorse.   I occasionally enjoy conquering lines of CSS, and I am a consummate list maker.   My comedic kryptonite is Cat Fancy photography.   The pleasures of a good meal are a balm to my soul, and I firmly believe in the healing power of a cup of tea.   I believe kindness is the key to happiness.

I can see the trees and the forest.
I find beauty in order, yet love to be kept on my toes.
I relish finding a creative solution to every opportunity presented.
